The Modern Tech Guild

Think Deeper. Build Smarter. Lead Better.

Become the person people trust when the technology decision isn’t obvious !!!

Modern Tech Guild is for experienced engineers, architects, and technology leaders who are being asked to make bigger technology decisions with less certainty.

This publication helps you:

  • 🏗️ Make better technology decisions: Navigate architecture, trade-offs, constraints and ambiguity.

  • 🤖 Think clearly about AI: Understand what AI and agentic systems are actually changing — beyond the hype.

  • 🧠 Develop technology judgment: Build mental models and frameworks for reasoning through unfamiliar problems.

  • 🗣️ Lead with confidence: Challenge assumptions, communicate trade-offs and influence decisions without needing to know everything.

  • 🚀 Move from builder to technology leader: Go from “How do we build this?” to “Should we build this, why, and what are we betting on?”

At its heart, Modern Tech Guild is about one thing:

Learning how to think when the answer isn’t obvious.

What you’ll find here

🏛️ Architecture & Technology Strategy

How do we build and evolve technology that can withstand change?

Architecture decisions, modernization, cloud, platforms, technical debt, technology strategy and the trade-offs that rarely fit neatly into an architecture diagram.

🤖 AI, Agents & the Future of Software

What is AI actually changing — and what isn’t?

AI architecture, agentic systems, adoption, engineering productivity and the implications for how we build and lead technology.

⚙️ Engineering Leadership & Organizations

How do we build engineering organizations that actually execute?

Engineering effectiveness, operating models, organizational design, technical leadership and the uncomfortable reality that many “technology problems” are actually organizational problems.

🧭 The Technology Leader’s Journey

How do technically excellent people become technology leaders?

The journey from Senior Engineer to Staff, Principal, Architect and beyond — developing judgment, influencing without authority, navigating ambiguity and learning to operate at a different altitude.

And yes, we’ll talk about imposter syndrome.

The more senior you become, the more you realize how much you don’t know.

There will always be another technology you haven’t learned, another architecture pattern you haven’t studied, and someone in the room who knows more than you about something.

That’s not a reason to stay quiet.

Modern Tech Guild is about replacing:

“I don’t know enough to have an opinion.”

with:

“I don’t know everything — but I know how to reason about this.”

Because confidence doesn’t come from knowing everything.

It comes from trusting your ability to figure things out.

Who am I?

Hey There !
I am Jyoti & I’ve spent more than two decades in software engineering, technology architecture and large-scale transformation, working with complex systems and organizations.

Over the years, I’ve helped modernize legacy ecosystems, build and scale technology platforms, navigate transformation, and increasingly explore what AI and agentic systems mean for the future of software.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is simple:

The hardest part isn’t knowing more technology. It’s knowing what matters.

Which assumptions to challenge. Which trade-offs to surface. Which risks to accept. And how to make good decisions when you don’t have all the answers.

Modern Tech Guild is where I distill those lessons into practical thinking you can use.

What you can expect

You’ll find:

  • Deep dives into difficult technology and leadership problems.

  • Field notes — shorter observations drawn from real-world experience.

  • Frameworks & playbooks — practical ways to approach decisions, not just opinions about them.

  • Contrarian takes — because useful lessons often begin by questioning what everyone else accepts.

The publication starts free.

Over time, deeper research, frameworks and practical resources will become available for paid subscribers.

But the principle won’t change:

Don’t leave the reader impressed. Leave them more capable.

If you’re being asked to make bigger technology decisions with less certainty, you’re probably in the right place.
